A YELLOW weather warning for heavy rain and flooding has been issued for several areas in Scotland on Monday.
The Met Office issued the warning, which runs from 3am until 10am tomorrow, for the south west of the country, which covers regions including the Strathclyde area, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire.
The areas under the yellow alert are at risk of flooding, travel disruption, and water on roads which is likely to make journey times longer.
The Met Office said a few places can expect around 40-50mm worth of rainfall, with the majority of areas under the warning expected to see around 15-30mm worth of rain.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Heavy showers will become frequent across the area overnight and into Monday morning.
“Accumulations of 15-30mm are expected quite widely across the warning area, but where repeated heavy showers fall, a few places could see 40-50mm.
“This would be sufficient to bring surface water flooding to some locations for the morning rush hour.”
Although the weather alert is only for parts of the south west, the rest of Scotland is also expected to see a large amount of rainfall.
Meteorologist Craig Dewhurst said in the Met Office's forecast: “First of September is the first day of meteorological autumn, and with low pressure in charge, it really will feel like that.
“We'll see showers across the whole of the country, some of them will be heavy at times, some hail, some thunder in there.
“Showers [will be] more frequent the further north and west you are, but being blown in on quite a brisk wind.”
The wet and windy weather conditions are expected to ease by Tuesday, with a mix of showers and brighter intervals.
