The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for ice across large part of Scotland this morning.

The warning covers the Highlands, Orkney and most of west and south-west Scotland, including Glasgow.

It was issued shortly after 5am on Friday and will remain in place until 9am.

Forecasters say people can expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and probably some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Traffic Scotland also issued the Met Office ice warning on Friday and urged motorists to drive to the conditions and ensure windscreens are clear from frost.

A statement on the Met Office said: "Icy patches are likely to develop following overnight rain and showers, especially where there are further showers early this morning.
