Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes third-youngest Indian to score a Test double hundred

NEW DELHI: Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his prowess by becoming the third-youngest Indian player to score a Test double century on Saturday.

The remarkable achievement unfolded during the ongoing second Test between India and England at Visakhapatnam.

Jaiswal played a marathon knock of 209 off 290 balls, featuring 19 boundaries and seven sixes. The left-handed batsman exhibited exceptional skills and resilience, setting the stage for a dominant performance against the English bowling attack.

His innings came to an end when he was dismissed by the experienced pace bowler James Anderson. Shubman Gill contributed with 34 runs, being the next highest scorer for India.

Third-Youngest Indian: Aged 22 years and 37 days, Jaiswal secured his place as the third-youngest Indian player to achieve a Test double century. Vinod Kambli remains the youngest, achieving this milestone at 21 years and 35 days.

Left-Handed Maestro: Jaiswal joins the elite club of Indian left-handed batsmen who have scored Test double centuries, a list that includes Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, and Vinod Kambli.

Fastest Indian to Maiden Double Century in Tests: While Jaiswal took just 10 innings to reach his maiden double-century, Karun Nair holds the record as the fastest Indian, achieving this feat in just three innings.

Consistent Performance: Jaiswal's remarkable double century adds to his growing list of accomplishments across formats. In six Tests and 10 innings, he has amassed 620 runs at an impressive average of 62.00, showcasing his adaptability and hunger for big scores.

Having already excelled in various domestic tournaments and T20Is, Jaiswal is on the path to becoming India's newest all-format star.
