Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Doubles Down on Mentality With Umpires Following Suspension

After winning 99 games and cruising to the AL East title in 2022, the Yankees have found sledding tougher in 2023. New York is 30-23, eight games behind the first-place Rays in the division.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has been desperate to find a spark for his club—so much so that he's tried to provide it, getting ejected so frequently he incurred a one-game suspension "for his recent conduct toward major league umpires" per MLB.

If fans of New York and its rivals were wondering whether the suspension and fine would chasten Boone, they got a firm answer Saturday.

“No, I’m not going to change,” Boone told reporters ahead of the Yankees' game against the Padres. “Even though I have been kicked out of a lot of games, a lot of them I make it through. So maybe just being better at knowing where that line is.”

Boone has been thrown out of three games in the last two weeks, getting the heave-ho on May 15 against the Blue Jays, Sunday against the Reds, and Baltimore Thursday.

Per the AP, Boone has been ejected from 30 of his 761 career games, an astounding ejection rate of 3.9%.
