
Miyuki Yamada claimed her second medal of the Paralympic Games, taking silver in the women's 50-meter backstroke S2 on Thursday in a time of 1 minute 6.98 seconds.
The 14-year-old swimmer was the first Japanese athlete to earn a medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Aug. 25, winning silver in the women's 100 backstroke S2, a class for athletes with physical impairments.
She is also the youngest Japanese Paralympian to win a medal.
Earlier on Thursday, Yamada advanced to the final with the second-fastest preliminary time of 1:09:44.
A native of Agano, Niigata Prefecture, Yamada started swimming at the age of 5. She was born without arms and with legs of different lengths. This is her first appearance at the Paralympics.
