XYZ Films secures North American rights for groundbreaking Iranian drama

XYZ Films acquired 'Tatami' for North America

The Iranian drama 'Tatami' has recently garnered attention as XYZ Films has secured its North American distribution rights, with plans to release both lip-synched English and original language versions later this year. Co-directed by Guy Nattiv and Zar Amir, this groundbreaking film made history by being jointly helmed by an Iranian and Israeli filmmaker, bringing a unique perspective to the big screen.

Premiering at Venice in 2023, 'Tatami' took home the prestigious Brian Award, further solidifying its impact on audiences and critics alike. The film's storyline unfolds during the Judo World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, focusing on Iranian female judo fighter Leila, portrayed by Arienne Mandi, and her coach Maryam, played by Zar Amir. When faced with a difficult ultimatum from the Iranian regime that threatens Leila's freedom, the protagonist must navigate a moral dilemma that pits her loyalty against her personal beliefs.

Featuring a talented cast including Jamie Ray Newman and Ash Goldeh, and penned by Guy Nattiv - an Oscar-winning filmmaker known for his acclaimed short film 'Skin' - and Elham Erfani, 'Tatami' delves into themes of sacrifice, resilience, and the human spirit's struggle against adversity. Produced by Mandy Tagger, Adi Ezroni, Jamie Ray Newman, and Guy Nattiv, the film offers a poignant and thought-provoking narrative that promises to resonate with audiences worldwide.

The collaboration with XYZ Films marks an exciting milestone for the release of 'Tatami,' with plans to cater to US and Canadian audiences by creating a perfectly lip-synced English version through innovative AI technology by Flawless. This move aims to enhance the viewing experience and make the film more accessible to a broader range of viewers, showcasing the power of technology in modern cinema.

As James Emanuel Shapiro from XYZ Films aptly puts it, 'What's going on in the world makes me very sad. This movie is a shining force of light and represents the very best of the human spirit against adversity.' With a diverse portfolio of films in its lineup, XYZ Films is committed to sharing impactful stories that resonate with audiences and spark important conversations on a global scale.

Stay tuned for the release of 'Tatami,' an emotionally charged drama that challenges conventions and celebrates the strength of the human spirit in the face of extraordinary circumstances.
