Xherdan Shaqiri speaks out on Liverpool role amid lack of playing time

Xherdan Shaqiri admits he has struggled with his lack of game time at Liverpool .

Shaqiri, 27, has made just two substitute appearances this season with the majority of his outing in his debut campaign also coming from the bench.

The Swiss star got the last five minutes against Newcastle on Saturday and few could begrudge him for being frustrated.

But Shaqiri insists he is committed to the cause at Anfield, despite his lack of regular match action.

“It is not easy for me, of course I am a little downbeat," Shaqiri told Teleclub.

"You have to be able to handle that and you have to accept it, I was always still in the squad.

"You cannot ask the coach to play every match."

Shaqiri snubbed an international call-up earlier this month in a bid to win his place back in Jurgen Klopp's side.

And he maintains he is happy with the European champions and wants to end the season with the Premier League title.

“I feel very comfortable here. We have a great coach, a great club. There’s a family feel," Shaqiri added.

"I hope we can bring the Premier League back to Liverpool after 30 years.”

Liverpool begin the defence of their Champions League crown when they take on Napoli on Tuesday night.

Shaqiri will hope for some action in Naples with Liverpool also facing trips to Chelsea and MK Dons in the next week.
