Xbox Games Showcase 2023 recap: Fable, Avowed, naked Yakuza, and more

The Xbox Games Showcase packed two dozen trailers into just an hour, and while there were hardly any release dates, there was, at least, a better look at what Xbox has coming in the next 12 months or so. Xbox showed off a quick look at Fable, featuring Richard Ayoade, along with the first glimpse at Avowed gameplay, while Atlus flexed its presence with a whopping three new games, including the long-awaited Project: Re Fantasy.

RGG showed up once again with Like A Dragon hero Ichiban, sans clothing, Cyberpunk 2077 DLC finally has a release date, and Overwatch 2 is gearing up for a pretty big sixth season.

Here’s every Xbox Games Showcase 2023 announcement you might have missed.

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC release date

Phantom Liberty is coming up soon, and Keanu Reeves was on hand to introduce a new trailer with an extended look at the upcoming DLC. Check it out in our Phantom Liberty recap.

Persona 3 Remake, aka Persona 3 Reload

It was a poorly kept secret after Atlus accidentally loaded the trailer to their Instagram page, but Persona 3 remake is real and it looks like quite the stylish upgrade.

Payday 3 gameplay trailer

Payday 3 is launching Sep. 21, 2023, and you can get a good luck at the criminal action above.

Star Wars Outlaws is Ubisoft's Star Wars game

The new Ubisoft Star Wars game is Star Wars Outlaws. Xbox only showed a cinematic, but you can look forward to actual gameplay during the Ubisoft Forward on June 12, 2023.

P5T is Persona 5 Tactica

P5T is a tactics-based Persona spinoff where the Phantom Thieves lend a hand in toppling some oppressive regimes. It looks pretty in-depth too.

Richard Ayoade in Fable 4

There’s still no release date, and we don’t even know what’s going on. However, we finally got to see Playground’s take on Fable, complete with Richard Ayoade as a vegetable-loving hero hater named Dave, and it looks absolutely splendid. Check out the trailer in our Fable recap.

South of Midnight announcement

The We Happy Few team is working on a dark tale of death and monsters in the bayou. There’s not much to go on in the trailer, but it’s pretty darn stylish.

Spiritfarer maker Thunder Lotus announces 33 Immortals

Thunder Lotus, makers of the cozy game Spiritfarer, are back, but this time they have something rather different. 33 Immortals is a co-op roguelike for, you guessed it, 33 players, with monsters, magic, mighty warriors, and a slick animated style.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Dune Expansion

A brand-new Flight Simulator experience is coming in 2024. That’s about all Xbox announced, but new Flight Simulator is always a good thing.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Dune Expansion

The only thing better than Flight Simulator is DLC that lets you fly over the lands of Dune in a House Atreides Ornithoptor. Maybe no one else was actually thinking it, but Warner Bros. apparently was, and we’re glad for that.

Hellblade 2 story trailer

Hellblade 2 remains elusive as ever, though Team Ninja debuted a new trailer taking a look inside Senua’s mind.

Like A Dragon 8 trailer

RGG showed off a new Like A Dragon 8 trailer and gave it an official name: Infinite Wealth. Ichiban also has no clothes on, which is very distressing for him and rather amusing for us. Check out the trailer in our Yakuza 8 recap.

Fallout 76 trailer

Fallout 76 is still going strong, and there’s even more on the way to Bethesda’s live-service game.

Capcom announces Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

What starts out like a Monster Hunter announcement quickly turns into something fresh and new from Capcom. There’s not much detail here, though we’ll probably see more at Capcom’s own showcase on June 12, 2023.

New Forza Motorsport trailer

Forza Motorsport is looking pretty expansive in its latest trailer, and pre-orders are live ahead of the Oct. 10, 2023, release date.

Overwatch 2 Invasion teaser

Overwatch 2 PvE may be no more, but Blizzard teased a bit about what it turned into in an Overwatch 2 season 6 trailer.

Don't Nod reveal Jusant, a puzzle-based climbing game

Don’t Nod, makers of Tell Me Why and Life Is Strange 2, are making a puzzle-action climbing game that’s all about vibes and a meditative feel.

Still Wakes the Deep, a new horror game

In a complete 180 from Jusant, we have Still Wakes the Deep next. It’s a horror game set on an isolated oil rig – the perfect setting for a horror game – where the depths are full of rather more than just water and fish (read: “fire and things that want to hurt you).

Metaphor ReFantazio, a new RPG from the Persona makers

Atlus announced Project Re:Fantasy in what feels like another lifetime, but it’s back and now it’s called Metaphor ReFantazio. There’s a lot going on in the announcement trailer, and you really have to see it for yourself.

Dungeons of Hinterberg announcement

Dungeons of Hinterberg brings a colorful look and comic book-style vibe to the action-RPG genre, and it’s planned for a 2024 launch.

Cities: Skylines 2 trailer

More cities, bigger skylines, and so many ways to build the utopia of your dreams – or the hellscape of their nightmares.

Towerborne, from the Banner Saga makers

The minds behind The Banner Saga are back, but this time they have an action-RPG in the works.

Clockwork Revolution announcement

Time travel, political intrigue, futuristic steampunk, and important choices with potentially disastrous consequences – This is Clockwork Revolution from Wasteland 3 makers inXile, and it’s coming in “due time.”
