X Factor star Lucy Spraggan forced to fly home from holiday early after horror homophobic experience

X Factor favourite Lucy Spraggan ended up flying home early from her Malta holiday after dealing with a holiday from hell.

The musician took to Facebook to update her fans on the holiday that “lasted 2.5 days.”

She chose to take the girl she's dating on holiday to Malta after hearing “it was so LGBT friendly and progressive.”

“First day we arrived we realised we’d landed in the wrong part of town,

“Every other bar was a ‘gentlemen’s club’ and it was clearly a party destination, and everywhere we went someone shouted ‘lesbians’ at us”

“We went to a restaurant in Valletta where the waiter said: ‘the way you girls are sitting is so sexy, you are making us all hard’,

“Yeah. Word for word.”

Lucy said the experience left her “so angry.”

“All we could do was f**king laugh in disbelief and calmly ask for the bill.”

“To diffuse the situation I said ‘we have more to discover here’ to which he said ‘How about I discover her with you’.”

The pair left their hotel early and traveled to another hotel where their balcony door didn’t lock. Lucy said they ended up in a half hour dispute with reception to sort a new room with more security.

When the couple went out again for ice cream, she said that “local men” started harassing the pair with rude hand gestures while “shouting in our direction.”

The two ended up flying home early.

“I am sick to f**king death of feeling threatened as a woman. Sick to f**king death of feeling threatened as a lesbian.

“I am sick to f**king death of being spoken down to by men across the globe.”

She added: “Malta was beautiful, but experience was not.”

Fans of the singer took to the comments to offer support, tell of similar situations and express outrage at the pair’s experience.

One person from Malta said “You were definitely in the wrong part of Malta. Lived here for 20 years & we don't venture to them parts these days.”

Another said: “Being a gay man in Malta and also being a social media influencer means that I never go out to “Public“ places.”

Another added: “I'm sorry you had to go through this. Being Maltese myself, I feel ashamed you were treated like this in a country that "prides" itself for being the best when it comes to equality and human rights.”
