X Factor star Diana Vickers issues health update on 'horrendous pain'

Diana Vickers has detailed her "horrendous pain" as she opened up on her suspected diagnosis.

The singer shot to stardom on season five of the X Factor in 2008 - and has since gone on to forge a successful career in showbiz. The 30-year-old has built up a portfolio of theatre credits and starred in a touring production of Dial M for Murder, which featured at the Liverpool Playhouse last September.

Her latest project is as part of comedy duo, Ki and Dee, where she performs comedy songs alongside her best friend. Diana regularly shares updates with her 97.1k Instagram followers from her exciting life.

However, she has taken to the social media platform to issue a lengthy statement as doctors suspected she may be suffering from endometriosis. She said: "The end of last year and beginning of this year I was in horrendous pain and discomfort and nobody knew what was wrong.

"Based on my symptoms the doctors thought I may have endometriosis. Although it is still unclear as to be diagnosed with endo it entails an operation which women can be on the waiting list for years.

"From the feedback I have from my friends online, I am not alone in this and it seems a common though that not enough research is being put into women's health. As well as going to see some great doctors, I also sought holistic therapy from my friend who is a healer and it helped relieve my pain.

"I think it's important to always keep pushing you doctor. I'm grateful I'm not in pain I was. I'm not entirely sure what was/is going on with my body. I'm skipping periods some months etc;. But very grateful to not be feeling like I was.

"Please always keep pushing with your health and you don't know what's wrong get to the bottom of it."

The NHS website describes endometriosis as a "condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes". The condition can affect women of any age and symptoms can include pain in your lower tummy or back, which is usually worse during your period.

The NHS advise people get in touch with their GP if symptoms are "having a big impact on your life".
