Wycombe Wanderers confirm positive Covid-19 tests and what it means for Tottenham FA Cup tie

Tottenham's FA Cup fourth round opponents Wycombe Wanderers will not be in action this weekend due to positive Covid-19 tests at the club.

Due to travel to the capital to take on QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, the game has been postponed after the club informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixture.

The Chairboys were pencilled in to play Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, January 19 but that will also now not take place after the Owls confirmed positive Covid-19 tests on Wednesday.

Wycombe's next game will indeed be the FA Cup game against Jose Mourinho's men on Monday, January 25 at Adams Park, which will be 10 days after the QPR postponement was announced.

However, if there are any lingering symptoms or if the club confirm any more cases between now and then that in turn will raise question marks over what exactly will happen with the cup fixture

Last weekend's FA Cup third round saw one game postponed as Shrewsbury Town couldn't play their cup tie away at Southampton following a number of positive tests at the League One club.

The game will now be played this coming Tuesday at St Mary's, with Saints' Premier League fixture against Leeds United moved as a result.

Aston Villa were also hit by a coronavirus outbreak at the club and it meant that they had to field a team of youngsters against Liverpool at Villa Park.

The outbreak at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground did have an impact on Tottenham as their game in the Midlands due to be played on Wednesday was postponed, with Everton's game against Dean Smith's side this Sunday now also called off.

Following the decision to postpone the QPR game, a statement on Wycombe's official website read: "Wycombe Wanderers’ next Sky Bet Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers, due to take place tomorrow, has been suspended.

"The Club informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixture following recent positive COVID-19 tests and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

"The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

"Revised dates for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course."
