WWE legend Rey Mysterio outlines final WrestleMania wish before retirement

WWE great Rey Mysterio has one final wish before calling time on his legendary career, which he would like to fulfil at WrestleMania.

The legendary high-flyer has enjoyed a glittering career which has spanned more than three decades - succeeding in every promotion he has stepped foot in.

Many of his crowning achievements have come in WWE, most notably at WrestleMania 22 in 2006, where he defeated Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a triple threat match to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

He has won numerous titles and contested some epic matches, but at this stage of his career, the 47-year-old spends time wrestling alongside and advising his son Dominik.

His eldest child is in the early stages of his career and the pair made history last year by becoming the first father-son duo to win the tag team championships.

Now, as we are less than three months away from WrestleMania 38, the lucha libre icon has one wish before he decides to walk away from the squared circle.

“There is definitely a WrestleMania moment that has yet to be seen next to my son,” Mysterio said at a press conference promoting the new WWE 2K22 video game.

“That is something that if you would have told me a year ago, that I was going to be able to share the ring with my son, let alone become tag- team champions. The first ever in WWE I would have said, 'get out of here.'

“But now things have just flourished and have manifested, I’m putting this out in the world that I want to have a WrestleMania moment with my son before I end up hanging up the mask.”

The fact Mysterio has wrestled long enough, and still at a high level, to compete alongside his son is testament to his durability as a performer.

However, the former WWE champion thought he would be already watching from the sidelines when Dominik became a professional grappler in 2020.

Dominik, who first appeared in WWE back in 2005, is now 24 years old and is Rey's eldest child (WWE)

Beaming with pride: Rey gushed: “Being able to share the ring with my son was a very special moment.

“This moment I’m living right now with my son; I never thought I was going to be able to live it but I’m actually here.

“It’s just been an incredible ride and I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve had in the ring - from my beginning in 89’ to now in 2022.”

There is no doubt that the master of the 619 will enter the WWE’s Hall of Fame in the future.

He has already etched his name among some of the greatest wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots.

Mysterio has been announced as the cover star for the new computer game WWE 2K22 (WWE)

When the time comes for him to be inducted into the esteemed class, he would love Dominik, along with wife Angie and daughter Aalyah, to do the honour of inducting him.

“I see either my son or just my family in general – my wife, my daughter, my son, he said with a smile.

“They’ve all been part of WWE from day one and I think that would be a very special moment. They’ve hung with me till this day from the very first day so I owe them a lot.”

Yesterday, Mysterio was unveiled as the cover star for the new WWE 2K22 video game.

This year’s edition of the game, set for release on March 11, features a redesigned gameplay engine to new controls and upgraded visuals, WWE 2K22 is set to look, feel, play, and “Hit Different.”

Mysterio is excited to play the game and represent his Mexican culture in such a profound manner.

“Representing the culture of lucha libre as the cover Superstar for WWE 2K22 is a moment of great pride for me,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the stories behind the big moments of my career with a dedicated community of players and connecting with WWE fans in a whole new way.”
