Hulk Hogan: WWE SmackDown honors wrestling legend with tributes after death at 71

WWE legend Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71.

Medics were reportedly called to Hogan’s Clearwater, Florida, home Thursday morning. An official cause of death hasn’t been revealed, though TMZ reported he experienced “cardiac arrest.”

Friday morning, Hogan’s wife, Sky, confirmed in a heartbreaking Instagram post that he had been suffering from health issues, but she had been confident he would recover.

“I had so much faith in his strength. I thought we still had more time,” Sky wrote in part.

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s, bringing professional wrestling into the mainstream. He went on to become an eight-time WrestleMania headliner and six-time World Wrestling Entertainment champion, in addition to an actor and reality television personality.

Hogan was also embroiled in controversy throughout his career. A sex tape scandal and racist remarks clouded his reputation and left him asking fans for forgiveness.

The former wrestler also became a fixture during President Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, appearing at the Republican National Convention to appeal to voters.

She also blamed the WWE star for the family’s strained relationships.

However, shortly after Brooke went public with her claims, Hogan, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, reportedly said he wasn’t sure why his daughter wasn’t speaking to him.

“Terry not speaking to Brooke is [a] much more recent thing [than her not speaking to her mother],” a source told US Weekly.

The same source went on to say that Hogan “tells people he doesn’t specifically know why Brooke won’t speak to him.”

Lio Rush says he won't be celebrating Hogan's death

Lio Rush, who worked for WWE between 2017 and 2020, said that he was going to be jumping in on the “hate train” and wouldn’t be “celebrating the death of anyone”.

The current AEW star added: “If you have a personal opinion strong enough that you feel the need to share with the world on a day someone lost their life while family and friends mourn, that’s on you. If you were a kid watching Hogan, you were dropping the leg, hulking up, waiving the finger, ripping off a shirt your parents bought you or playing air guitar to nWo’s music.
