Wrexham hit out at fans who jeered and booed during minute's silence to the Queen in strongly worded statement

Wrexham have condemned a "small number of individuals" who disturbed a minute's silence in respect for the Queen ahead of their National League match with Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

Before the fixture at the Racecourse Ground, the club issued a statement to urge their fans to observe the tributes respectfully. However, despite Wrexham's plea, some supporters failed to do that.

There were jeers and some booing after the referee blew his whistle to signal the beginning of the minute's silence, which was quickly shushed by other supporters in the ground. Almost 10,000 were in attendance at the game, a bumper crowd.

A Wrexham spokesperson said on Wednesday morning: "It was disappointing to hear the one-minute silence before the 4-1 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge disturbed be a small number of individuals among the 9,835 in attendance.

"To have the club’s name in the media this morning for all the wrong reasons is not a scenario that should have occurred and we wish to apologise to all who were offended by the actions of the minority, while thanking the vast majority who did observe the one-minute silence.

"A number of the individuals who disturbed the one-minute silence were asked to leave the Racecourse Ground for their own safety."

Wrexham claimed a commanding 4-1 win against Dagenham, with Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer bagging braces. The Red Dragons are in second place behind league leaders Chesterfield.

They are next in action away from home against Southend United this weekend.
