NEW DELHI: Veteran pacer Marizanne Kapp played a crucial role in restricting UP Warriorz to a below-par total of 119 for nine in a Women's Premier League (WPL) match in Bengaluru on Monday.
DC skipper Meg Lanning's decision to bowl first was vindicated by Kapp's outstanding spell, where she finished with remarkable figures of 3 wickets for 5 runs in her four overs.
Radha Yadav (4/20) and Kapp (3/5) broke the back of Warriorz batting with their economical, wicket-heavy spells.
Kapp initiated her destructive spell by dismissing Vrinda Dinesh for a duck, with Dinesh's shot reaching Shikha Pandey at deep third man. The next blow came when Tahila McGrath's stumps were disturbed by Kapp's delivery, pitching on the middle-off line and deviating enough to crash onto the wicket.
In her third over, Kapp delivered a significant blow by dismissing Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy, who scored 13 off 15 balls. Healy attempted to force the pace, but her shot lacked both timing and direction, resulting in a fine running catch by Shafali Verma near the circle.
Despite Shweta Sehrawat's efforts (45 off 42 balls), including a slog-swept six off Minnu Mani, the Warriorz struggled as wickets fell at regular intervals. The team ended the Power Play at 21 for three, requiring a substantial effort to turn the game's momentum.
