'Wouldn't tolerate it' - Graeme Souness makes bold Mohamed Salah claim after Liverpool win

Graeme Souness believes Kenny Dalglish "wouldn't have tolerated" the way Mohamed Salah plays and would have made it clear in the Liverpool dressing room.

The Reds continued their recent revival with an important 3-1 win against West Ham United on Sunday to move them up to third in the Premier League table.

The Egyptian forward smashed a sublime opener with a curling left-footed striker before rounding off the move of the game to give Liverpool a two-goal lead.

The ball was cleared by Andrew Robertson to Trent Alexander-Arnold from a West Ham corner, who slung a 60-yard pass into the feet of Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss international then crossed for Salah, who killed the ball dead with his right foot before deftly stroking the ball past Lukas Fabianski with his left, all in 14 breathtaking seconds.

Gini Wijnaldum scored a third for Jurgen Klopp's men before Craig Dawson pulled back a consolation goal for the hosts.

With Mane out injured and Roberto Firmino only on the bench, Salah was forced to take centre stage against the Hammers and produced the goods for his side.

However, Souness wonders whether Salah's approach to his attacking play would have been accepted by some Liverpool icons of old, such as Dalglish.

But he also marvelled at the quality on display from the 28-year-old superstar.

“I sit and watch Liverpool play and I think, if Kenny had been playing with them, they’d have been fighting each other in the dressing room after every game, he wouldn’t have tolerated it," Souness told Sky Sports after the 3-1 victory.

"But his numbers, he’ll say at the end of the career to look at his numbers.

"That touch there with your wrong foot, he’s actually got over it and touched it into the ground so it wouldn’t go through to the goalkeeper. Magnificent touch.”

Jamie Redknapp added: “Salah’s desire, determination, look at the speed he’s going at as well. It’s an incredible touch.

"We mentioned it’s a good ball, yes it is, but look how high it is, he manages to bring it down and flicks it in. It’s an amazing one with Salah, he’s got 15 goals now, top scorer, but it still feels like he doesn’t get the love of certain players, he’s phenomenal.

"Maybe it’s because people perceive him as a bit greedy, too many shots.

"He’s incredible but he doesn’t get the love of some of the strikers we talk about - the likes of Kane etc - he is phenomenal and he’s doing it not from a central striker position, more of an inside right, but his numbers are phenomenal.”
