Worrying spike in Leeds coronavirus cases as city records second biggest jump in Yorkshire

There has been a significant increase in confirmed coronavirus cases in Leeds.

In the past 24 hours, 35 new infections have been recorded across the city, bringing the total to 4,237.

In Yorkshire, this makes Leeds second only to Bradford in terms of new infections. They recorded 36 new cases in the past 24 hours, for a total of 5,915.

In total, 140 new cases were confirmed across the county.

It comes on a day where Leeds once again recorded no new coronavirus deaths for the 10th day in a row.

However, in Yorkshire after two days of no virus deaths, a fatality was announced by Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Yorkshire

  • Barnsley - was 2,103 now 2,106 (+3)
  • Bradford - was 5,879 now 5,915 (+36)
  • Calderdale - was 1,112 now  1,125 (+13)
  • Doncaster - was 2,062 now 2,063 (+1)
  • East Yorkshire - was now 1,682 now 1,687 (+5)
  • Hull - was 1,602 now 1,603 (+1)
  • Kirklees - was 2,850 now 2,866 (+16)

  • Leeds - was 4,202 now 4,237 (+35)
  • North Yorkshire - was 2,677 now 2,681 (+4)
  • Rotherham- was 2,146 now 2,149 (+3)
  • Sheffield - was 4,549 now 4,561 (+12)
  • Wakefield - was 2,036 now 2,047 (+11)
  • York - still 947
