THE world's tallest cinema in Glasgow could be "closed down", it has been revealed.
Cineworld on Renfrew Street is at risk of closure after an email was sent to staff at the entertainment venue outlining plans to shut its doors.
In the email, bosses of the city centre cinema said they had been "informed by the building owners that they intend to take back" the site on the busy street.
Due to this, Cineworld said if this was the case, it is likely the cinema "would be closed".
The letter states: “Dear colleague. We have been informed by the building owners that they intend to take back our site at Glasgow, Renfrew Street.
“If this is the case, then it is likely that the Cinema would be closed and we would commence a consultation process with you to discuss available options.
“At this stage, we have no further information or timescales that we are able to share with you, but we wanted to ensure that you were aware of the situation at the earliest possible stage.
“This situation is outside of our control; however, we acknowledge that this is an uncertain period for you, and we will endeavour to ensure that you remain the first to know of any further developments.
“As we are sharing this update with you now, please treat this information as confidential and do not share further.”

"We have communicated to and are working closely with our employees who may be impacted.
"At this stage, we do not have further information to share.”
Cineworld on Renfrew Street is known as being the "world's tallest cinema".
The cinema was originally opened in September 2001 by UGC; however, Cineworld took it over in 2005 when OGC sold all their chains.
The much-loved venue stands at 203 feet tall and sits over 4000 viewers in 18 screens.
