World Para-Athletics Championships recap as Jason Smyth breaks record to win gold

Jason Smyth was in record-breaking form as he surged to victory at the World Para-Athletics Championships on Wednesday.

Smyth claimed an impressive win in the T13 100m final in Dubai.

The Co Derry runner sealed his 20th gold medal of a stellar career in a Championship-best time of 10.54 - and just outside his season's best.

Australia's Chad Perris took silver with Namibia's Johannes Nambala back in third.

Smyth's gold is Ireland's second medal at the World Para-Athletics Championships following Niamh McCarthy bronze in Tuesday's F41 discus final.

It is the latest success for Smyth who has dominated his field for a decade-and-a-half.

He remains unbeaten in a 14-year Paralympic career and has won eight world titles in that time.

Smyth's gold medal tally now stands at 20, including five Paraylmpic golds, eight World Para-Athletics Championships and six European titles.
