World Naked Bike Ride 2019: Route, timings and theme for Bristol

There's certainly no shortage of top notch events in Bristol and one of the most unique is the World Naked Bike Ride.

The annual spectacle sees hundreds of nude cyclists take to the streets in order to raise awareness of how vulnerable people on bikes are in the city.

It takes place in various cities all over the UK and Bristol's edition is usually one of the most popular, attracting masses of entrants and onlookers.

Below is everything you need to know about the event.

When does it take place?

The eye-catching ride takes place on Sunday, June 9 and will kick off at 1.30pm.

Riders will congregate at the Full Moon on Stokes Croft at 12.30pm to meet fellow participants and get in the mood, with a carnival atmosphere expected.

In total the ride will last for around two hours.

What's the route?

As in previous years, the route will start and finish at the Full Moon and Attic Bar, on Stokes Croft .

It will set out along Baldwin Street and head around Queen Square, which is currently fenced off, before going around Castle Park and along to Hotwells via Cumberland Road.

Cyclists will then return to the Full Moon via College Green and the centre.

The route covers approximately seven miles, with no steep hills or tricky surfaces.

What's the theme for 2019?

Although the official dress code for the event is 'dare to bare' - meaning riders can wear as much or as little as they wish - the majority of people taking part in the ride are likely to do so fully naked.

A word from the organiser

Helen Smith is leading Bristol's ride for the first time this year and will be joined by her cocker spaniel, Pip, who will be in a trailer behind her.

Helen said: "I'm really looking forward to leading the ride this year, I've only ever done one Bristol ride before so it's been a lot to take in, but lots of fun.

The Naked Bike Ride arriving in Castle Park

"There's been a unanimously positive response from everyone I've spoken to about the ride in the build-up so I'm expecting a good turn out.

"It's going to be great fun and it's for a brilliant cause - I'm just crossing my fingers that the sun shines."

How to enter

The ride is free to attend - simply turn up at the Full Moon before 1.30pm to take part.
