World Cup 2022 odds: Gareth Bale hot favourite to lead the way for Wales in Qatar

Gareth Bale is a red-hot 7/4 favourite to end the 2022 World Cup as top scorer for Wales according to Betfred. The Welsh captain is the country's all-time top scorer with 40 goals from 108 appearances and the bookmakers think that it's extremely likely that the now Los Angeles FC man tops Wales' scorer lists.

However, although Bale scored five goals in the World Cup qualifying campaign, his backers had their fingers burned at Euro 2020, with the captain not featuring among the trio of Aaron Ramsey, Connor Roberts and Kieffer Moore, who notched once apiece.

So although Bale is on free-kicks and penalties, there might be some value in opposing him in the top Wales scorer market, not least because The Dragons are unlikely to go goal crazy in Qatar. Rob Page's side are 5/6 with Betfred to score four or more goals and the same price to score three or less.

According to the layers, Kieffer Moore looks the most likely to cash in should Bale not grab the glory and the Bournemouth striker can be backed at 9/2 to outscore his teammates. Moore is the Cherries joint-top score this term with four goals from just just eight Premier League starts and he's already banged in nine goals for his country despite not getting his first international call up until 2019.

Aaron Ramsey might be operating at lower club level nowadays but the 31-year-old is still an integral part of this Wales side and there will be takers for the 12/1 about him outscoring his teammates in Qatar. Only Bale (5) outscored Ramsey (3) in the qualifying campaign and the former Arsenal man still has license to get into the box as much as possible for his national side.

Nottingham Forest striker Brennan Johnson only has two goals to goals to his name in the Premier League this term but he is playing for a side that are struggling and the 21-year-old is more than capable of cashing in on an opportunity should the chance arise.
