Workers run to help after woman hit by car on Queens Drive

Workers rushed to help after a woman was hit by a car on Queens Drive.

Merseyside Police has blocked off a section of the road, at the junction of Rocky Lane in Childwall, following a crash. Police were first called at 1.20pm following reports of a woman being hit by a white Fiat 500.

There was a large emergency service presence at the scene with the North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service in attendance. As emergency services started arriving an eyewitness saw workers running across the road to try and help.

The workers were seen running across the road with cones to stop traffic from reaching the incident. The woman that was hit by the Fiat 500 was taken to hospital with a head injury, which is not believed to be life threatening.

Queens Drive was initially closed in both directions, with police reopening the northbound carriageway a short time later. It's unclear how long the southbound carriageway will remain closed for, but Merseyside Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Just before 1.20pm this afternoon (Wednesday, May 3) officers were called to a report of a collision on Queens Drive in Childwall involving a woman and a white Fiat 500. A woman was taken to hospital with a head injury which is not believed to be life threatening.

"Queens Drive is currently closed whilst emergency services are currently at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area. "Thank you for your patience whilst we deal with this incident."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was in attendance at an incident on Queen’s Drive earlier this afternoon. Crews were alerted at 1.18pm and on scene at 1.23pm.

"Two fire engines and the search and rescue team attended and assisted Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service. MFRS crews left the scene at 1.37pm."
