A WORKER has died after an incident at a packaging factory in Cumbernauld.
Emergency crews were called to the Pitreavie Packaging facility on Grayshill Road at about 00:20 on Tuesday.
A 57-year-old man was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Scotland said officers had launched an investigation alongside colleagues from the Health and Safety Executive.
Enquiries are currently ongoing.
A spokesperson on behalf of Pitreavie Group said: “It is with deep regret that we confirm that there was a fatal incident at the Pitreavie Packaging Manufacturing facility in Cumbernauld on Tuesday 7th October.
“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of our colleague at this very sad time.
“There is a full investigation underway into the circumstances of the incident.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.20am on Tuesday, 7 October, we received a report of a man injured at a premises in the Grayshill Road area of Cumbernauld.
“Emergency services attended, and a 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are aware.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: “We received a call at 00:19 to attend an incident on Grayshill Road, Cumbernauld.
“We dispatched an ambulance and a special operation response team (SORT) to the scene.”
