Worker dies after becoming trapped in machine at Elk Grove Village plant

April 16--A man died Wednesday after he became trapped in a machine at an Elk Grove Village plant where he worked.

The worker became caught in a power lathe, a machine that spins quickly to shape or cut products including metal and wood, at an Acme Industries location on Chase Avenue, said Scott Allen, spokesman for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The employee, a 50-year-old man, died before police and fire officials arrived at the business about 11:45 a.m., Elk Grove Village police said in a statement.

The man was identified as Wayne Follman, of the 300 block of Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, although police said the man lived in Elk Grove Village.

Acme CEO Guy Cassidy said the company is working to determine how the incident happened.

"We are extremely saddened by this tragedy," he said in a statement.

Acme manufactures parts for equipment used in the oil and gas, mining, transportation, power generation, aerospace and military industries.

Police are investigating the incident but do not suspect foul play, according to the statement. OSHA is also investigating, Allen said.

Cassidy said the company is cooperating with investigators.
