Worker dangles from skyscraper's window washing platform in terrifying footage

Dangerous high winds left a worker dangling from a window-washing platform on the side of a skyscraper.

Terrifying video captured by a witness, showed the platform swinging wildly and crashing through a pane on the Stantec Tower in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

As the scaffolding swings back and forth, gasps can be heard as the worker slips and is left hanging by just his harness.

Firefighters managed to pull the worker to safety with a ladder truck, along with ropes and a pulley system on the ground to get the scaffolding down.

Writing on Twitter after the incident, Edmonton Fire Rescue Service praised the police and ambulance service for their support and said the afternoon had been "eventful".

A post read: "Eventful, blustery afternoon in downtown Edmonton today.

"Harsh winds blew scaffolding into the side of Stantec Tower calling on the need for both a ladder and the technical rescue team.

"Crew members working on the scaffolding were secured properly via harnesses and are fortunately unharmed."

The service also thanked Alberta Health Services EMS and Edmonton Police Service for support.

The 66-floor Stantec Tower is the tallest building in Canada west of Toronto.

PCL Construction said in statement the cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

“The worker did not suffer any injuries thanks to his fall protection harness, but did need the assistance of firefighters to safely bring him down unharmed,” PCL Construction said.

“We would like to thank Edmonton Fire Rescue Services for their quick response and help with this incident.”
