Work set to start on the Hunter's newest housing estate

Construction of the first homes at a new estate in the Hunter is due to start in August.

Located at 1721 Mount View Road, the 217-lot Millfield Rise estate, on the outskirts of Cessnock, represents a new frontier of the region's booming housing market.

The Cessnock Local Government Area is one of the state's fastest-growing regions. The estimated resident population of 71,443 is growing at a record annual rate of 2.90 per cent compared to the state average of 0.86 per cent.

The Millfield Rise project was previously brought to market by another developer and forms part of Cessnock council's long-term housing and growth plans for the area.

About 15 per cent of the 40 community-focused lots in Stage 1 had been sold or were under offer.

A spokeswoman for the Sydney-based Landen Property Group said inquiries had come from the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney, although most buyers were local owner-occupiers looking to build in the area.

"Millfield Rise is currently generating more inquiries than any other project in the Landen portfolio," she said.

"The size of the blocks is attracting a lot of interest. Buyers can secure a homesite ranging from around 750 square metres to more than 1200 square metres, offering significantly more space than many buyers would typically find in metropolitan markets."

A central green corridor and walking track will run through the estate, linking open spaces and providing a landscaped buffer so new homes sit within the surrounding landscape rather than overwhelm it.

A children's playground was planned for Stage 4 as part of the broader open space network.

The sales centre is expected to be completed later this month.

The spokeswoman said the focus would remain on Stage 1 sales, with Stage 2 expected to come online in spring and civil works anticipated to begin later in the year.

Landen exchanged on the acquisition in December 2025 following a competitive process and will progress the estate across six stages, with delivery sequenced to align with existing infrastructure and planning controls.
