Work begins on final phase of giant industrial park in Exeter

Construction work on the final phase of Matford Green Business Park in Exeter has begun.

Developers Eagle One are buiding two units - the K1 a trade counter/industrial/warehouse unit measuring 8,640 sq ft will be available on a leasehold basis.

The 20,000 sq ft unit K2 has been pre-let to a car dealership.

Both K1 and K2 are due to complete in summer 2023 and will be the fifth phase of the 26-acre development.

Noel Stevens, partner at Alder King who acted jointly for Eagle One, added: "I’m expecting demand for K1 to be strong given the lack of supply of new build space that persists in the market.”

Hitachi Construction Machinery UK Ltd (HCMUK) has been named as the latest business moving into at the development.

HCMUK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe, supplies excavators, wheel loaders, parts and servicing to the UK and Irish construction industry.

As part of the on-going expansion of its regional network, HCMUK has completed a lease on its new 8,900 sq ft Exeter branch on a 15-year term. They join Hayley Group to complete the line-up in the new 22,270 sq ft Unit J building.

Karsten Beckmann of HCMUK said: “We identified Matford Green Business Park as the ideal location for our expansion.

“The new facility is expected to be operational in April 2023 and will be a significant improvement, with a warehouse and service space over 10 times larger than our previous facility in Okehampton.

“The new depot will also feature a large retail shop, modern offices and a selection of compact size machines on site for purchase.”

Phil Moore of developers Eagle One commented: “The letting of J2 shows the strong demand in the industrial sector for high quality new build space. Hitachi is a household name and one we’re pleased to welcome to the development. This letting reinforces our view that Matford Green represents one of the best locations for occupiers in Exeter.”
