SURAT THANI: A 43-year-old woman who owns a property brokerage married a 28-year-old woman colleague on Thursday, and paid a dowry of her "bride's" weight in gold.
Woranat Phokhruprasert, managing director of JP Real Estate Co, organised their marriage at Kaew Samui Resort Hotel in Muang district.
Ms Woranat approached in a traditional procession to claim her bride, Ms Darawan Longkhlong. They then had a Chinese-style wedding ceremony with a dragon dance among the highlights. Many business leaders were among the guests.
The two had already been in a relationship for five years when they decided to wed. They set the ceremony for March 15, celebrating their age difference of 15 years. The bride's family received a cash dowry of 1.5 million baht and 50 baht-weight of gold worth about 980,000 baht, corresponding to Ms Darawan's body weight of 50 kilogrammes.
"Love should be borderless and unconditional. I am so glad for what we have today. It happens not only because of the two of us, but also senior family members who opened to us," said the groom.
"We would like to inspire those who have a love like ours to take a stand and fulfil their wish," the bride said.
