Germany are the No. 2 ranked team in the world according to FIFA and have proven why through four matches. They have been flawless: four wins with nine goals to their name and none conceded. While the USA and France were the two favorites entering the competition, Die Nationalelf are showing why they are a force to be reckoned with as far as legitimate contenders are concerned.
After falling to the USA in their final group match to finish as runner-ups, Sweden squeaked by Canada in the Round of 16 to earn this matchup. Ever the contenders, Sweden have been unable to break through the glass ceiling. If they are to finally insert themselves as an elite force in the world, they’ll need to pull off the upset against one of the best teams remaining at the World Cup. So far, the Swedes have yet to find a standout star with only one player scoring more than one goal. If they have any hope of advancing, they’ll need someone to step up on the big occasion.
