The best women's trouser suits combine elegance with comfort, making them a wardrobe staple. Whether you're looking for what to wear to a wedding, a garden party, or evenings out, these are the very best places to find fabulous trouser and blazer coords on the high street,
Before investing in a women’s trouser suit, it’s important to consider how it will work with the rest of your capsule wardrobe. While wearing as a set is their primary purpose. Choose well, and you can wear the jacket and trousers independently of one another and increase the cost-per-wear of your purchase. Neutral trouser suits will naturally offer the most versatility, but if you have a specific hue in mind, you can opt for a bold or pastel design, just consider how much use you will get out of it and if you're still willing to commit.
The spring/summer trends for 2025 ushered in butter yellow and pale blues as key colours for the months ahead, and these will look fresh and directional in trousers suit for, with pastel tailoring a great alternative to the best wedding guest dresses. However, this season's brown and deeper blue tones will probably offer greater longevity.
Women's trouser suits are a great summer styling option
Fashion Editor and Stylist, Julie Player has this advice: “The most important thing to consider when investing in a suit is the occasion at which you plan to wear it. If you are looking for a suit to wear for formal days in an office environment, it would be wise to choose a neutral-coloured, classically cut suit that will form the basis of a workwear capsule wardrobe.
"However, if you are looking for a suit to wear for a wedding or special occasion, you could consider a brighter colour or bold print that will make more of a statement. The shape is important, think about your body type and choose a style that will flatter your figure.”
Where to buy the best women's trouser suits
Many of our favourite British clothing brands are jumping on this trend – from ME+EM to Mint Velvet, there’s a style to suit every budget. We’ve rounded up the six best UK retailers to shop for the perfect women’s trouser suits for your wardrobe.
1. Next
Whatever style you’re searching for, you’ll find every variation at Next. The British high street brand offers a wide selection of mix and match options, perfect for customising your suit. Before you start shopping, Julie offers this sage styling advice:
“A sharply tailored jacket with padded shoulders will create structure and accentuate the shoulder line, perfect for balancing out a pear-shaped figure, while a cropped jacket paired with high-waisted skirt or trousers will flatter a petite figure type. A longer-length jacket combined with wide-leg trousers will disguise a pear shape.”
When it comes to your bottom half, wide-leg trousers have been a popular choice for the last few years and work well with a fitted jacket, but a slimmer pair of straight-leg trousers will be a better investment as they are universally flattering.”
This blazer in a lightweight linen-blend is a wardrobe must-have. The soft dusty blue is perfect for teaming with light wash jeans and a white t-shirt on weekends and is one of my favourite high street linen staples this season.
Wide-leg trousers are having a moment in the fashion world. The draped, front crease silhouette is universally flattering and looks excellent paired with wedges. Keep your top half more fitted to balance the fuller fabric at the bottom.
If you're wondering what to wear under a lightweight linen suit jacket, a simple vest is one of the best ways forward in the warmer months. Plus, you can wear this piece all season long with your favourite denim barrel leg jeans or with floaty skirts.
2. Reiss
The gold standard of high street women's trouser suits has to be Reiss. Long a front runner in affordable, beautifully-cut women’s tailoring, these suits deserve to be worn to more than just the office. If you’re looking for an alternative to dresses for the summer social season, look to Reiss for inspiration.
As well as classic navy, black and grey, the brand offers a range of colourful women's trouser suits perfect for special occasions such as weddings, parties and summer calendar highlights. Wondering what to wear to the races? Swap your favourite frock for a colourful, tailored two-piece this summer. Deputy Fashion Editor Charlie Bell offers this advice when looking for the perfect shade:
“While pale pinks work for spring and summer, opting for a dusky or deeper shade of pink will see your trouser suit work year-round. Try teaming it with red accessories for a cool colour clash look.”
With structured shoulders and a slim fit cut, this suit jacket is super flattering. The warm beige is relaxed yet elevated, making it the perfect alternative to dresses. For extra luxe, add a delicate silk camisole under the jacket and layer gold necklaces.
These wide-leg trousers are super stylish. The long, floaty shape, paired with high heels, will help elongate your legs, while the wider hem naturally narrows your waistline. The linen-blend makes them ideal for what to wear in the heat too.
Swap your shoulder bag for this cool occasion clutch. Tucked under your arm, you’ll be hands free for canapes and cocktails – a neutral raffia bag will work with multiple outfits too, thanks to its neutral colour.
3. Whistles
Whistles' women’s trouser suits focus on the latest trend this season, with an emphasis on waistcoats. If you’ve ever wondered how to wear a waistcoat, Julie Player says: “A matching waistcoat, worn without anything underneath, adds a modern edge to women’s trouser suits. For hot days, it’s the perfect alternative to a suit jacket or blazer.”
If you’d prefer upper arm coverage, add a blouse, shirt or a long-sleeved tee underneath. It will balance out the sleeveless jacket in a way a short-sleeved t-shirt doesn't and give you the coverage you're after.
This season, many of Whistles’ women’s trouser suits feature a longer line waistcoat which skims the hips and also features a higher neckline, extending to the collarbone. This design creates a more suit-like feel to the sleeveless style, evoking Nineties minimalism that is once again on trend. This longer-line cut is ideal for taller silhouettes, especially if you have a long torso and find traditional waistcoats often come up too short.
To contrast the formal cut of the navy pinstripe, the best white trainers are the perfect choice for a relaxed finish to your outfit, adding a cool modern twist to suiting.
With a high, rounded collar and hip-skimming hem, this design offers a point of difference to traditional waistcoat silhouettes. Try wearing it over a long-sleeve white tee with the bottom buttons undone for an updated take on this nineties-inspired style.
These stylish pinstripe trousers feature front pleat details that help to create a gentle, wide-leg for a relaxed fit that doesn't have too much volume. Their thigh-skimming properties offer a flattering finish, keep your top half print free to balance the stripe.
Add a cool edge to your suit with a pair of leather sandals. Black t-bar sandals are quietly luxurious, with their low profile and subtle style. This black pair has an androgynous feel that will team beautifully with tailored pieces.

Charlie explains: “Women’s trouser suits are sweeping the British high street, and where better to pick up a beautiful tailored suit than one of our shopping favourites, ME+EM? These cropped suit trousers are a chic alternative to jeans this summer. With the option of wearing them with the coordinating blazer or the matching waistcoat, you can regularly refresh this cool, tailored ensemble. Pair with neutrals such as tan or cream accessories.

Founded in Paris, The Kooples is by far one of the best French clothing brands to shop from for smart suiting and sleek tailored separates. From bold hues such as fuchsia to refined classics such as dark blue and white pinstripes, The Kooples has an extensive range for all occasions. With celebrity fans that include Claudia Winkleman, this brand is a great option for those that love slim fit, tailored pieces.
For a playful take on tailoring, try a fuchsia suit for size. This bold hue will certainly turn heads, offering a dose of dopamine dressing. A directional choice for occasionwear dressing, go tonal in all pink, or break up the look with a white camisole or blouse to tone the look down.
A serious statement, wear this sharp blazer with its matching trousers for an enviable trouser suit, or rock the jacket over a t-shirt with a pair of dark blue or black jeans for a cool, smart casual outfit idea. It will also work well styled over a black dress.
Tone down a statement suit with a simple camisole in a neutral colour to let your tailoring take centre stage. This white top has a deep V-neckline that echoes the line of the blazer and will help to lengthen your silhouette, drawing the eye down.

Available in three different leg lengths, you can find your ideal fit with these chic butter yellow wide-leg trousers. Wear with heels or flats, just consider your hem length, so they don't end up dragging on the ground.
Although technically not a part of a 'trouser suit', Bermuda shorts are a great alternative for tailored trousers in the warmer months. Team with the matching waistcoat or a white t-shirt for a more laidback look.
Can women wear a trouser suit to a wedding?
Whether you’re attending a cool city wedding or nuptials in a country church, trouser suits have become a stylish alternative to dresses in recent years. Look for styles in bright colours or bold patterns to make a style statement. You might also want to look at tuxedos for women, if the wedding you're attending has a black tie dress code.
Julie says: “Yes, you can wear a suit to a wedding. If you feel confident and comfortable in a trouser suit, there are plenty of styles that will be ideal. I suggest trying a softer colour or teaming a grey or navy suit with a patterned blouse or bright top. It’s best to avoid a white trouser suit, unless you are part of the wedding party (and the bride has sanctioned it's ok to wear white), and I wouldn’t wear black either as it’s just too sombre.”
What top to wear with a trouser suit?
Trouser suits are surprisingly versatile when it comes to different tops that you can wear with them. For an office-appropriate look, opt for a shirt underneath – crisp cotton will make you feel pulled together, or for a softer, more feminine take, try swapping to a silk blouse in a complementary hue. For an on-trend colour drench effect, opt for a top in a similar tone to your suit for head-to-toe cool. At the weekend or for more casual occasions, add a fitted plain or printed tee, finishing your look with trainers.
How should a trouser suit fit a woman?
When buying a suit, it’s important to consider what cut and style will suit you. It’s easy to get sucked into the current trends but a classic fit will age far better.
Julie Player offers this sage advice when it comes to fit: “The current trend for oversized boxy jackets and wider trousers is a great look if you want a fun and funky outfit, but beware. Trends change, and this look will probably date pretty quickly. I suggest going for a fit that skims your figure, fitting closely on the shoulders and tapering down towards the hips. Trousers that skim the ankle work well with ballet flats or Mary Janes, while wider leg styles look great with heels, or trainers if you want a relaxed look.”
An androgynous double-breasted blazer looks best worn done-up to highlight the cut. This can be a trickier silhouette to wear if you are fuller busted, as getting a fit that doesn't pull is not easy.
A single-breasted blazer is universally flattering and can be worn closed for a streamlined look or open for a more relaxed style. When worn open, try wearing a top in a contrasting colour underneath - this creates a slimming illusion panel by creating a window effect, drawing the eye to the portion of the torso in the open section, which is narrowed by the edges of the jacket.
Our final top tip? When it comes to getting the most out of your trouser suit, fit and fabric are the two things that make it look expensive. While you can't always get high-end fabrics on a tight budget, it is often worth spending a little extra on getting the right fit. Find a great alterations person to help you make your off the peg tailoring, custom-made, by making final tweaks that will give all your trouser suits a perfect finish.
