Woman who wanted Hollywood smile left with £18,000 bill after botched dental treatment

A woman who travelled to Turkey for a Hollywood smile has been left with excruciating pain and now faces a £18,000 bill to fix her botched dental treatment.

Amanda Turner, 34, from Belfast, booked a flight to Istanbul earlier this month for root canal surgery and dental crowns which would cost over £3,000.

The cost also included hotel accommodation and taxis to and from the airport.

After taking out a loan, she flew to Turkey to undergo treatment and when she arrived, Amanda paid for the treatment up front in cash and she was given a receipt for 28 crowns, which also contained a 20-year warranty.

Amanda checked into the clinic and everything was going to plan, but on the last day of her treatment, she soon started to fear something was wrong.

The mum-of-two had requested dental crowns but her dentists cut corners and incorrectly fitted several strips of false teeth instead.

Amanda's teeth were filed down to the root by dentists the same day and she returned back to her hotel.

However, she was in agony and later learned that she should have been given ‘temps’ to protect her natural teeth before leaving the clinic.

She had to return to the dentists three days later to fit her 28 crowns and when she arrived, they had prepared six bridges, which are used to span the space where teeth are missing.

She told The Sun : “I could feel the teeth weren't even in properly, they had this cement in my teeth, and my own teeth underneath were in excruciating pain. It’s a pain I have never imagined in my life.”

Amanda then text the clinic and after several forthright texts, they contacted the hotel and told staff they would no longer be paying for her accommodation.

She was forced to leave the hotel and arrived to the airport and took the first available flight to Dublin the next morning.

Since the treatment, Amanda has been unable to eat properly as food gives her pain when they touch the nerves of her mouth, where the dentists did not fit the bridges correctly.

After her botched treatment, she has warned others thinking about getting their teeth done abroad as she now faces daily pain and is urging others to do their homework about their dentists when they go to another country.

More people are choosing to have dental treatment abroad with Turkey, Hungary and Croatia all popular with Brits.

Just last month, Tony Rogers died suddenly while having dental treatment in Turkey.

Mr Rogers, 66, flew to Istanbul for an emergency procedure and died after receiving anaesthetic in the dentist's chair the next morning.

His sudden death has shocked his hometown, where he was a popular figure.
