One woman recently shared her method for removing stains from plastic food containers.

Her technique has gone viral - with the video racking up 18 million views on TikTok.

Everyone knows the struggle of trying to clean an empty container that has been stained yellow or red - usually by a delicious pasta dish or curry.

Despite scrubbing with a sponge, the containers stubbornly remain stained.

But this method really helps clear up containers so they look brand new.

In the caption, the TikTok user complained: "The things you learn after all these years!!

"I have thrown so much out!"

In the video, the TikTok user showed how rinsing out the container didn't remove the stains.

Instead, they put a wet paper towel in and some washing up liquid and added more water in before putting the lid back on.

After shaking it vigorously for 30 seconds, they tipped out the sudsy water and disposed of the paper towel.
