Woman shares 'brilliant' tin foil trick that stops grease clogging up your sink

We've all been there: you're cooking a tasty meal and you need to drain off some of the fatty grease that has built up in your frying pan, so without thinking too much about it, you pour it down the drain.

But, as many of us will know, that careless choice will come back to bite you once the grease had been left to cool and harden in the drain, as it will clog up your kitchen sink and leave you having to splash out on drain unblocking products just to fix the problem.

So what should you do with fatty residue from cooking? As one cleaning enthusiast has shared, there's actually an easy way to get rid of the grease without tipping it into the sink - and all you need is some kitchen foil.

The woman pours grease and oil into a piece of kitchen foil instead (Facebook/MrsHinchCleaningTips)

The woman posted her helpful hack on a Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page on Facebook, where she revealed that whenever she's cooking, she puts a piece of foil over a mug, and pours the grease into it, so it sits within the foil.

She then leaves it to cool down and harden, when she can simply remove the foil from the mug and chuck it away without ever having to deal with hot grease or a blocked kitchen sink.

In her post, she wrote: "Love this tip. I have just finished cooking beef mince. Instead of pouring the fat down the sink, I pour it into the tin foil and wait until it goes hard. Then wrap it up and throw it in the bin.

"Saves all that grease going down your sink."

Commenters on the post praised the woman for sharing her tip, as some said they already employ similar tactics, but will be switching to the tin foil method as it is "easier".

One person wrote: "Brilliant idea."

While another said: "Oh good idea, I always pour mine in a dish but the tin foil in it will make it easier."

Others also shared their own tips for getting rid of grease without putting it down the sink, as they said you can pour it into a milk bottle or a similar container. With this method, you can gradually fill up the container over time and then throw it away once it's full, which saves you from throwing away countless pieces of kitchen foil.

Someone noted: "I've been doing this for years. Another way is to pour it into a milk bottle (make sure the fat/oil is cool first) and just add until it's full then throw it in the bin."

As someone else added: "I just keep an old margarine tub to tip the used oil into."
