Woman's touching gesture for stranger in coffee shop takes unexpected turn

Random acts of kindness can be few and far between in this world.

But when they do occur, we should be grateful for them and appreciate what just happened.

However one woman found herself being taken for a fool when she attempted to do something nice for a stranger in a coffee shop - and it made her rethink her actions.

The unnamed lady claims things took such a drastic turn that she changed her mind about making a kind gesture and decided to merely go about her business as normal.

And now she's asking the internet for advice to find out whether she was right to do so.

She revealed all in a post on Reddit's Am I the A**hole forum.

She said: "I stopped by a local coffee place after work today. There was a woman behind me in line with a toddler, the kid was sweet and saying 'hello' to everyone in line and genuinely brightened my day.

"While I was standing near the cash register waiting for my order, the woman stepped up and ordered a $4 coffee.

"I kindly offered to pay and she seemed so grateful and even thanked me twice."

Everything was going well up until this point, but this is where things took a turn for the worse.

She continued: "Right after, she turned back to the cashier and said, 'In that case, you can add two extra shots and a blueberry muffin.'

"I was so taken aback, I immediately told the cashier that I changed my mind and she could pay for her own order. I walked over, picked up my drink and left without another word.

Another said: "People are awful, don't stop being a wonderful human being."

A third added: "She took advantage of your kindness, so she didn't deserve it."
