Woman's kind gesture made customer feel like crying in McDonald's drive thru

A support worker said she felt like she was "going to cry" when a "complete stranger" paid for her breakfast at a McDonald's drive thru.

Abbey Jones, 22, was on her way to a 12 hour shift supporting people with disabilities when she got a pleasant surprise at the drive thru window of McDonald's at Rock Retail Park by Green Lane, Birkenhead.

While rummaging for her purse around 7am on Monday, October 18, a McDonald's worker told Abbey that the woman ahead in the queue had already paid for Abbey's toasted jam muffin and toffee latte.

The Birkenhead woman told the ECHO: "I felt like I was going to cry. It sounds so strange, but I could have been literally anyone.

"I just think like, imagine if it was someone who's genuinely struggling with money and she paid for them.

"It's such a lovely gesture. It really doesn't kill to be kind."

Abbey added: "I tried to give the lady in front a hand gesture out my window to say thank you, but that's all I could do as I couldn't get out of my car.

"I'm unsure whether she may have known I was on my way to work as I was wearing my badge.

"I'm a support worker who supports people with physical and mental disabilities, so I work near enough 47 hours a week in 12 hour shifts.

"Sometimes I'm too tired of a morning to have breakfast, so I try and grab something quick on the way to work.

"I felt kind of emotional when this lady paid as it was such a kind and lovely thing to do."

Abbey took to Facebook shortly after to try thanking the woman who helped her out that morning.

She wrote: "I couldn't say thank you properly as I couldn't get out of the car, however I'm very thankful and grateful for people in the world like you."
