Victorian man released after woman's death

A man has been released after police confirmed the death of a woman in the outer Melbourne suburb of Lilydale was not suspicious.

Police were called to a property on John Street about 5.30pm on Saturday in response to a call for assistance.

The woman, who is believed to have known the 46-year-old Lilydale man, died at the scene.

The man was arrested and questioned after the death was initially classed as suspicious.

Following a post-mortem examination of the woman's body, her death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
