Woman rushed to hospital after ‘deliberate’ blaze at Scots flats as cops hunt firebugs

A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire was deliberately started at a block of flats in West Lothian.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Rowan Terrace, Blackburn, shortly before 6pm on Saturday.

Residents were evacuated while fire crews tackled the flames on the top floor of the building.

Four appliances were in attendance alongside the fire investigation unit.

It is understood that at least one home has been completely destroyed while others suffered smoke and water damage.

A 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Police have confirmed they are following a positive line of enquiry to catch the fire starters amid reports of anti-social behaviour by youths in the area.

A force spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a fire at a property on Rowan Terrace in Blackburn around 5.40pm on Saturday, 22 January.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“A neighbouring property was also evacuated.

“The fire is being treated as deliberate and officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance and extinguished the blaze shortly after 9pm.
