Woman picks budget over boyfriend's dream Halloween - now he's fuming

A woman who wanted to make her boyfriend's dream of living in a house all decked out for Halloween come true gave him £436 ($500) of her own cash to bring his childhood vision to life. When he'd first proposed the idea, she hadn't twigged just how much it meant to him, resulting in a bit of a row.

They'd headed out to buy Halloween goodies back in late September, and it quickly became apparent he'd assumed a budget had been put aside for spooky decorations. This was not the case, and he wasn't best pleased when she broke the news. Eventually, after a discussion with his pals, she decided to give him enough money to create the sort of fantastic seasonal display he'd always longed for.

He ended up immediately blowing all the cash on an animatronic clown and some lights, putting the rest on his credit card. When she wouldn't treat him to another large decorative piece, he became furious and scoffed at her 'cheap' suggestion of homemade spider webs. Things only got worse from there.

According to this exasperated girlfriend, they ended up fighting yet again over the sweets they needed get in ready for trick-or-treaters. He'd wanted full-sized chocolate bars but she knew this would be way out of their budget. He eventually relented, and they ended up buying bulk bags of small bars instead, plus small colouring books for kids with allergies, however this was far from the end of the matter.

Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/Trickortreat_ta, the unnamed woman recalled: "Jump forward to Halloween. Early kids show up and he is letting them grab handfuls. I remind him we have a tonne of trick-or-treaters coming, and he got really annoyed.

"I'd ordered a pizza for us so I get it and go inside for about 10 minutes. By the time I came back out, the trick-or-treat bowls were empty. He had been dumping a third of a bowl in each kid's bag and had given out all the colouring books to whatever kids came along".

She continued: "He told me that I'd have to go run out and buy more candy on my credit card. I said I wasn't going to do that, and it wasn't my fault he just handed out 20 pounds of candy. He started yelling right there in front of the kids, and I told him to come inside. He responded that he wasn't stopping trick or treating even if there was no candy. I told him to have fun with the clown, and went inside."

Around 15 minutes later, her boyfriend headed back inside, demanding she leave for the night so 'he could clear his head'. The house in question belongs to her and her alone however, in his mind, this arrangement was only fair as she'd already eaten and it was her fault Halloween was ruined because she was 'cheap'.

She refused to leave and simply handed him his share of the pizza. He's now gone to stay at a friend's house, and she's reached out to fellow Reddit users for advice.

One person warned: "Please, please run. Money problems are the number one cause of divorce and you aren't even married. He also seems stunningly immature and manipulative. Get well away."

Another urged: "You didn't mess up. There were no savings for that and he knew it. If he has credit card debt and is still spending like that he clearly has financial issues. Then he tries to bring you down with him. After the way he treated you (trying to kick you out of your own house), I'd think long and hard before taking him back."
