Woman loses 18 stone after becoming housebound while 'eating herself to death'

A woman lost 18st after becoming housebound while she was "eating herself to death".

Karina Dunford, 37, said she ordered takeaways, ate chocolate and drank 15 cans of cola every day.

She became housebound and when she reached her heaviest weight - 29st 8lbs - she had to rely on her husband Ian to help wash and dress her.

Now, the woman from Bridgend in South Wales, has lost 18st 6lb in two years after embarking on a diet journey with Slimming World, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Karina said: "I had a rough time when I was overweight. I felt that I embarrassed my whole family.

"I was bullied and felt that no one cared about me.

“I was so unhappy and my health was getting worse by the day. I just wanted to stay in every day with my husband Ian and never wanted to leave the house."

Karina said she tried many diets but never managed to lose weight until she decided to join Slimming World in January 2018.

Her weight loss meant she slimmed down from a size 32 to a size 10.

She has also been named Slimming World’s Greatest Loser

Karina said: "Since losing weight my husband Ian and I have a much better life.

"Now I have the confidence to do things for myself and Ian doesn’t have to care for me."

Her eating pattern has improved thanks to her diet and she now eats more fruit and vegetables - while limiting processed food and takeaways.

She enjoys cooking and plans her meals for all the week - sticking to her plan.

Karina also decided to join the gym and her confidence has improved after losing weight.

Karina's diet before

Breakfast: Fried breakfast, followed by chocolate, biscuits and some full-sugar cola

Lunch: Pizza, chips, burgers or fried chicken

Dinner: Regular fast food takeaways, especially Chinese, as well as burgers or fried chicken

Snacks and drinks: 15 cans a day of full-sugar cola

Karina's diet after

Breakfast: Fruit and yogurt, and overnight oats

Lunch: Tuna pasta salad, soup or ham salad

Dinner: Spaghetti Bolognese or chilli con carne with veg including carrots, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms. Slimming World Iceland meal with piles of fresh veg on the side

Snacks and drinks: Diet cola
