Woman in hospital after plunging down quarry in Kilsyth

A climber is in hospital today after plunging down a North Lanarkshire quarry into water.

Emergency services including the fire, police and ambulance were called to the Auchenstarry Quarry, near Kilsyth, at around 7.10pm on Tuesday, July 21.

As a result, a 29-year-old woman was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Paramedics say her injuries are non-life threatening.

A spokesman from Police Scotland told the Record: " Police Scotland was made aware of a woman, 29, having fallen at Auchenstarry Quarry near Kilsyth around 7.10pm on Tuesday, July 21.

"Officers assisted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene and the woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to non-life threatening injuries."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman told the Record: "A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 7pm on Tuesday, 21 July to reports of a person requiring assistance near Auchinstarry Road, Kilsyth.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of appliances and specialist resources to Auchinstarry Quarry to assist a climber who had fallen.

“Firefighters trained in rope rescue and water rescue worked together to assess and transport the casualty via boat to an awaiting ambulance.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
