Woman in her 40s dies after falling ill at hotel swimming pool

A woman in her 40s died after falling ill at a hotel swimming pool.

The woman was using the pool of the hotel in Killarney, Co Kerry, Ireland, this afternoon when she became unwell.

The alarm was raised shortly before 2pm.

She was reportedly found unresponsive before being taken from the pool and given CPR treatment at the scene.

The woman, believed to be Eastern European, was rushed to University Hospital Kerry where she was later pronounced dead, despite efforts to revive her, reports the Irish Mirror .

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at the hospital tomorrow and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Daily Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating the sudden death of a female in her 40s that occurred at a hotel in Killarney, County Kerry at approximately 1.40pm today, Thursday 5 September 2019.

"After becoming unwell, the female was taken to University Hospital Kerry where she was later pronounced dead.

"It’s understood at this time a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court."
