Woman fumes after husband attends friend's funeral she's been 'excluded' from

A woman has been slammed after saying she was 'devastated' her husband plans to attend a funeral that she is not welcome at. The upset partner took to Reddit to explain the situation but many people were quick to side with her husband after they learned why she had specifically been 'excluded' from the funeral.

In her post, the woman revealed she and her husband have both been grieving the tragic death of their friend, Joe, but the author has not been invited to the service as she is not on 'good terms with his widow'. She explained when Joe had been unwell she had posted health updates about him on her social media account which she thought would be okay because the couples had mutual friends.

However, Joe's partner was furious and blocked her and has now uninvited her from his funeral, the Mirror reports. The post has divided opinions as many were quick to apologise for her loss but reminded her that the widow's feelings were more important in this situation and they understood her response.

However, many were also quick to point out the woman should be allowed to say goodbye to her friend. In her divisive post, the woman explained she doesn't get along with her late friend's fiancée.

She wrote: "The biggest blowup I had with her was after I posted health updates about Joe on my personal social media account. I thought this was normal since we have lots of mutual friends but she clearly had an issue with it. She called me names then blocked me."

Her post continued: "Now the funeral is going to be in 2 days. I just found out I got excluded by her. My husband is still going which I found unfair and quite devastating.

"I didn't wanna miss Joe's funeral but can't do anything about it now. I did tell my husband that I expect him to stay home and not go after I got excluded.

"He snapped and said what I was expecting was unfair and that whatever 'petty' fight between me and Joe's widow was none of his concern. I told him that I'm his wife and he should stand by me especially when I'm being treated like this but he said it wasn't his problem."

She concluded: "Now we're not speaking because of it. Some mutual friends are siding with me. Others think Joe's widow created this situation to begin with."

Over a thousand responses were left under the post as many defended the widow's decision in light of the circumstances. One of the most-liked comments said: "I'd be furious too if a non-relative posted health updates about my husband on social media without asking either of us first.

"Someone's personal health struggles aren't your issues to use to get clout or sympathy. She's the one who now has to navigate life without her husband. Her needs come first in this scenario."

Someone else wrote: "Everyone asking the wife for updates could definitely be tough for her - she has enough to deal with. But if the [original poster] wanted to take that off her plate, the proper thing would have been to ask if she wanted that help, and constrain the updates to the relevant audience.

"Posting that information without permission to social media really just looks like the [original poster] was trying to garner sympathy for herself."
