Woman fumes after being told to 'cover up' in gym while wearing crop top

A woman was left outraged after being told to 'cover up' by gym staff because she was wearing a crop top - despite turning up in similar exercise clothes in the past.

Jo, who regularly post to workout videos to TikTok account @jo.fitt, shared a video of her outfit which included black shorts, a bright orange crop top, and copped black hoodie.

In the clip, she claims a member of staff approached her and said she would had to cover up her chest if she wanted to remain in the gym. She wrote: "POV: Your gym of three years dress codes you."

As reported by the Mirror, when asked in the comments exactly what the employee told her, Jo said: "I have to cover up. No crop tops, and that's all I wear."

The video has since garnered almost 30,000, with many coming to her defence and questioning why the gym has a dress code in the first place.

One person commented: "You can get dress coded at a gym?"

Another said: "Dress code? What is this, high school?!" And a third wrote: "Dress coded for gyms are kinda … weird? Ironic?"

Other commenters also drew attention to the double standard between men and woman, with many men often going shirtless in the gym without consequence.

One user wrote: "I mean, I would struggle with the outfit because I hate crop tops, but I'd gladly kick their a**es for you because nobody gets to do that in a gym where males oftentimes just rip their shirts off and never get reprimanded or dress coded."

Someone else noted: "Unless they enforce it with all gym goers, f**k that! I got dress coded at my gym before and I swear it's simply because of having a curvier body type."
