Woman 'distressed' after man follows her in Paisley street

Police have launched an investigation after a man approached and followed a young woman in a Scots town causing her "considerable distress".

Officers first responded to a report of the incident on Springbank Road, Paisley at around 11.35pm on Saturday August 14.

The man engaged in conversation with the woman and then followed her for a short time until a member of the public intervened.

He ran from the scene after the person assisted the woman.

It is thought he may have approached two other women in separate incidents that night between 10.55pm and 11.15pm.

Officers are asking these two women to get in touch.

The man has been described as white, roughly 5ft 10ins in height, in his mid-20s with short dark hair.

He had been wearing a dark t-shirt, dark jeans and a long-sleeved white or cream coloured jacket at the time of the reported case.

Additional police patrols are now ongoing in the area to reassure the public and anyone with concerns can approach these officers.

Detective Constable Kate Wason said: “I am appealing to members of the public who were in the town centre that day to think back and consider if they saw this man or if they noticed anything odd or suspicious.

"Even if you think your information isn’t relevant, please do pass it on as it could prove vital in our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0012 of the 15 August, 2021.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
