Aug. 02--A Pilsen woman was ordered held on $250,000 bail in the fatal beating of a man who was punched, kicked and stomped on, then run over with a car in the Little Village neighborhood last year.
Miriam Romero, 22, of the 2100 block of South Carpenter Street, is charged with first-degree murder for attacking Victor Ramirez, 23, in the 4100 block of West 26th Street on Aug. 31, prosecutors said.
About 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2014, Romero was in a car being driven by Alvaro Perez, who has already been charged and indicted for the murder, prosecutors said. Romero, Perez and a group of others were driving around when Perez began to yell out gang slogans at Ramirez, who was walking down the street.
The car then stopped and the group got out of the car and began beating Ramirez, who was alone and unarmed. He fell to the ground as the group punched, kicked and stomped on him while continuing to yell out gang slogans, prosecutors said.
Ramirez's friends, who drove by and recognized him, yelled at the attackers to stop. The attackers then ran back to their car, a blue Chevy Tahoe, and swerved the vehicle toward Ramirez, drove over him and killed him, prosecutors said.
Ramirez died on the scene due to massive blunt trauma, according to court documents.
Police later found the attackers' car at 22nd Street and Trumbull Avenue, and Ramirez's blood was recovered from the wheel well and undercarriage. Fingerprints inside the vehicle matched those of Romero, prosecutors said.
Detectives found surveillance video from a store near the intersection, prosecutors said. That video showed Romero and another suspect walking by, wearing the same clothes as described by witnesses. Romero was later identified by one of Ramirez's friends who witnessed the attack.
In bond court Saturday, Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Romero held on $250,000 bail. Her next court date is Aug. 3.
