Woman calls for adult-only sections on planes after being sat by screaming child

A woman has called for adult only plane sections after enduring a flight near a raging child.

Morgan Lee has sparked a debate about the presence of little ones on commercial jets by posting on TikTok about a recent flight.

The Floridian said she was stuck listening to the howling wails of a child for the entire flight.

“The flight was three hours and I listened to this the entire time," Morgan wrote in the caption of the video.

The clip shows her looking into the camera as the screams of a child are heard in the background, prompting her to break into an amused smile.

The text over the video reads: “Why isn’t there such a thing as adult only flights? I would pay so much money.”

The 24-year-old said that her noise-cancelling headphones weren't enough to keep the cries out of her head.

“I have noise cancelling headphones, the child was well over five years old, and they sat directly behind me while kicking my chair as the mother slept,” she wrote.

The video has received more than 700,000 views, presumably due to the near universal experience of being annoyed by a crying child.

Some were less than impressed with her idea for an adult's only section, suggesting such an idea caused anxiety for parents.

“And this is why people/parents/mums have anxiety when leaving the house. Because no grace is given,” one person wrote.

Another snippy user added: "Guys you don't get it. her comfort is more important than anyone else's."

A third explained: "As a woman who used to get extremely frustrated by this, I promise you now (as a mum) the mothers are already stressed because we KNOW everyone else is mad."

Others backed her up however, suggesting there would be greater harmony at 30,000 feet if kids and adults without children were separated.

“As a mum, I want an adult-only flight too," one person wrote.

Another added: "People saying they see both sides.. nope! I’d pay for an adult only flight too."

Flying can prove very difficult for babies, whose ears are often less adept at dealing with the changes in pressure that come from ascending and descending.

Dr. Simon Baer, a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon, told Live Science. "Certainly, one of the main reasons babies cry on planes is that they are not good at pressure equalization in the middle ear, as the infantile Eustachian tube does not generally function as well as (the one in) adults."
