Woman arrested after Audi passenger killed in early-hours smash

One woman has died and another arrested following an early hours crash on a main road in Bury.

A black Audi A1 collided with a wall on Bolton Road West, in Holcombe Brook, just before 1.40am this morning (December 2).

The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have arrested a 44-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and police assault.

She remains in police custody for questioning this morning.

Police are now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage, or information about the crash, to get in touch.

PC Suzanne Keenan, of Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision, very sadly, resulted in the death of the passenger.

“Our thoughts are with her loved ones.

“A woman is in custody but our investigation is ongoing and I appeal to anyone with information/ dash cam footage or who saw a black Audi A1 in the area beforehand to contact us.”

Bolton Road West has been closed in both directions since around 2am between Longsight Road and Holcombe Road.

Investigators are currently working in the area to gather evidence about the collision.

The road closure is affecting traffic between Bolton and Ramsbottom.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We’re called at 1.36am following an RTC on Bolton Road West.

"We sent two ambulance a rapid response vehicle and an advanced paramedic to the scene. One female patient was taken to hospital."

A GMP spokesperson said officers were called to the scene at 1.40am.

“Officers attended and established that a black Audi A1 had collided with a wall,” they said.

“The female passenger was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 44-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and police assault. She remains in police custody for questioning.

“An investigation is underway.”
