Woman, 70, rescued from car then taken to hospital after crash

A 70-year-old woman had to be rescued from a car before being taken to hospital after a crash in Salford.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene on Cadishead Way, in the Irlam area, at around 2.30pm this afternoon (Friday). The crash involved one car, the fire service said.

The woman had to freed from the car by fire crews, who were working at the scene for around one and a half hours. She was then taken to hospital by paramedics, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said.

It has not been yet been confirmed how serious her injuries are. The Manchester Evening News understands that a section of the road was closed off for some time while emergency services dealt with the incident.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At 2.30pm this afternoon (8 July) firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle on Cadishead Way, Irlam. Fire crews from Irlam fire station attended the scene where they quickly extricated one female casualty from a vehicle before conveying her to the care of North West Ambulance Service.

"GMFRS were in attendance for one and a half hours."
