Woman, 23, sexually harassed while waiting for burger at her local McDonald's

A 23-year-old woman has been sexually harassed while waiting for a meal at her local McDonald's.

Journalist Lucy Marshall visited the fast-food restaurant in Jameson Street, Hull, at around 8pm on Friday.

She wanted to try out the so-called McSpicy challenge, so she ordered at the self-service machines and was on her phone while staff prepared her burger.

Writing for Hull Live, Lucy said she saw a man, who seemed drunk, entering the restaurant while talking on the phone.

She wrote: "At first I didn't think much of it and thought he was just a drunken man coming in for some food to sober up - many of us can relate.

"But his volume and husky voice was all anyone could hear. He was shouting down the phone to his friend about nonsense."

The encounter happened on Friday night (MEN Media)

While on the phone, he told his friend he was at McDonald's and kept talking so loudly that everyone could hear him.

The man then ordered his food and moved over to the area where customers wait for their meals.

Lucy said: "His trousers were falling down and he stunk of beer. I noticed he was wearing an eye patch and looked like he had been in a fight of some kind."

She tried not to be judgemental and kept playing on her phone, but at some point she noticed the man was looking at two teenagers who were sitting together at a table.

The man told his friend on the phone: "There's some right girls in here. I don't know how old she is."

He went over to the girls and asked one of them how old she was, and she replied: "I'm 15."

He then stumbled away and said to his friend: "Ayyy she's 15 mate. Yeah I just asked her. Am I going to get arrested? Shhhh I'm gonna get arrested in here me."

The man also approached a 15-year-old girl who was left upset (MEN Media)

While Lucy kept an eye on the teenagers, she noticed the man was getting closer to her, almost pressing his body against her.

The reporter tried to move away, but could not go much further and tried to avoid engaging with the man, even though she understood he was staring at her bum.

Lucy wrote: "If I turned the other way there he'd either try speak to me or make comments about another part of my body."

When she turned around and looked at the man, he told his friend: "Aye. I'd love to pin some of these birds in here down right now.

"She's proper sticking her bum out this one."

Lucy became worried and hoped her food would be ready soon, so she could leave the restaurant.

She explained: "Not that it matters what I was wearing. If I was there in underwear it's still uncalled for, but I had on a smart work outfit, a blouse and a pencil skirt. I wasn't engaging with anyone I was literally there to get food after work.

"Still waiting and almost being reduced to tears by this imbecile, I moved even further away from him.

"He then said: 'Oh mate she's a f****g t**t. Little t**t. If girls don't want to be looked at then they shouldn't wear short skirts should they.'

"The room was silent apart from his echoing voice. Everyone felt so awkward and uncomfortable.

"His stench could be smelt from the other side of the room and he was still blabbering on and on and heckling with his disturbing laugh."

As soon as her food was ready, she walked out of the restaurant, but kept thinking about the 15-year-old girl who had to experience the man's behaviour and hear his disturbing comments.

Lucy said: "It's sad that you can't even pick up food at 8pm on a Friday night without being subject to harassment.

"All I wanted was a McSpicy burger not sexual harassment."
