Liverpool exacted revenge on Wolves to book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Friday night. After visiting Molineux in the Premier League on Tuesday night and coming away with a galling defeat by way of a 94th-minute winner from Andres, the Reds headed back to the Midlands with a point to prove. After a nervy first-half ended goalless, it seemed they might have been in for another tough night, but a decisive second-half performance ensured their revenge.
Andy Robertson was the first scorer, firing home with a swerving volley which deftly evaded the outstretched hand of Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone. He turned provider moments later, crossing smartly for Mohamed Salah to turn in a second at the back post, confirmed after a lengthy VAR check, which investigated what would have been the most marginal of offside decisions. With Wolves all but beaten, Curtis Jones put a third nail in the coffin, driving through the middle of the pitch before passing his finish into the far corner.
Hwang Hee-chan pulled one back on the counter-attack in injury time, but it was scant consolation on what turned out to be a grim evening for the hosts. Florian Wirtz made his return from injury off the bench, replacing the remarkable Rio Ngumoha in the second half. The 17-year-old dazzled throughout the evening and was unlucky not to come away with a goal or an assist. Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis.

Wolves 0-3 Liverpool
21:48 , Arthur Ferridge90mins: How has that stayed out? Konate somehow misses Gravenberch’s cross. He was inside the six-yard box, but just seemed to swing and miss. Bizarre.
Not sure what he was doing there, in fairness. Being a centre-back he was a bit far from home.

Wolves 0-2 Liverpool
21:24 , Arthur Ferridge67mins: Wolves seem to have run out of gas a bit. After that last corner was cleared, they didn’t seem to show much interest in countering.
Wolves 0-2 Liverpool
21:24 , Arthur Ferridge66mins: A heroic header from Toti Gomes cuts out Robertson’s cross which, if not for the defender’s intervention, would have handed Salah a close-range shot. Superb defending.
Wolves 0-2 Liverpool
21:21 , Arthur Ferridge64mins: As we well know, Liverpool do have something of a knack for conceding late goals this season. They did so here at Molineux on Tuesday. So, there is nothing to suggest Wolves can’t get back into this.
Wolves 0-2 Liverpool
21:20 , Arthur Ferridge63mins: Bellegarde finds Arokodare in acres of space, but the Super Eagle makes a hash of his first touch and squanders the opportunity. Such a waste.

Wolves 0-1 Liverpool
21:10 , Arthur Ferridge53mins: Before I even had the chance to ponder if this would be a floodgates opening moment, Salah has it in the back of the net again.
He is flagged offside, but will VAR turn that over?
GOAL! Wolves 0-1 Liverpool | Robertson '51
21:09 , Arthur FerridgeThe deadlock is broken! It is Robertson with a screamer! He catches the ball so sweetly and it swerves just out of the reach of Johnstone.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
21:08 , Arthur Ferridge50mins: CHANCE! Mosquera’s cross in search of Santiago Bueno is a dangerous one, but Van Dijk’s intervention is enough to deny him the shooting chance and even deny the home side a corner.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
21:05 , Arthur Ferridge48mins: The corner comes to nothing. Well defended by Wolves, who have been very organised this evening.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

2ND HALF: Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
21:02 , Arthur FerridgeWe are back underway! This match was decided by late goals earlier this week. Can we expect more eleventh-hour drama today?
Fan reaction: Salah unimpressive
20:53 , Arthur FerridgeSalah doesn’t have the pace or take on defenders like he used to. Doesn’t track back to help out the defence either. He’s past it. Time to accept it. #WOLLIV #EmiratesFACup

HALF TIME: Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:47 , Arthur FerridgeGoalless at the break!
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:47 , Arthur Ferridge45+1mins: Van Dijk heads wide, tries to appeal for another corner, gets told ‘no’, and has a little strop. Eighth time was not the charm.
The replay shows he might have had a point, though. There was a deflection from Arokodare.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:46 , Arthur Ferridge45mins: Mac Allister’s tame shot is blocked and goes behind for a corner. Will the eighth time be the charm?
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:45 , Arthur Ferridge45mins: Tchatchoua is almost beaten by Ngumoha, but puts in a nice last-ditch sliding block to stop his cross.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:43 , Arthur Ferridge43mins: Ngumoha is almost getting the Eden Hazard treatment here. He’s been that dangerous, all Wolves can really do is kick him.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:42 , Arthur Ferridge41mins: Szoboszlai absolutely leathers it... into the wall. Gravenberch’s follow-up is caught by Johnstone.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:41 , Arthur Ferridge40mins: A really clumsy tackle from Joao Gomes on Mac Allister gives Liverpool a free-kick right on the edge of the box. This will be their best shooting chance yet.
Who else but Szoboszlai to size it up.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:39 , Arthur Ferridge39mins: Tchatchoua is starting to impose himself physically on Ngumoha. The pair go after a loose ball, and the youngster is shunted off it unceremoniously by the Cameroon international.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:38 , Arthur Ferridge37mins: Liverpool have had just shy of 70 per cent of possession so far. Eight shots, two on target, and seven fruitless corners.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:37 , Arthur Ferridge36mins: Ngumoha trips and has an awkward collision with his marker. Seems to take a knee to the back of the head. No theatrics from the 17-year-old, though. He hops straight back to his feet and we play on.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:35 , Arthur Ferridge34mins: Ngumoha’s shot from range is deflected out to Gomez, who has never scored a senior goal. He sees his name in lights and has a pop, but his ignominious scoring record will persist.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:34 , Arthur Ferridge33mins: Salah has been pretty anonymous thus far. Hasn’t really done anything to impose himself on Hugo Bueno, in spite of the fact that the vast majority of this game has been played in Wolves’ defensive third.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:31 , Arthur Ferridge30mins: Arokodare gets his head to Szoboszlai’s corner but his clearance is only as far as Gravenberch. He puts his laces through it but misses wide left. Even if it were on target, Johnstone, an ex-England international, would have had it covered.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:29 , Arthur Ferridge28mins: Liverpool have been less than sharp with their set-pieces today. This latest free-kick also goes nowhere.
Ngumoha finds himself on the ball again shortly thereafter, though. He breaks into the box with a jinking run and wins a corner.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:27 , Arthur Ferridge27mins: Arokodare trips Gakpo and it’ll be another Liverpool free-kick.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:26 , Arthur Ferridge25mins: Salah’s corner is tipped over the bar by Johnstone. Here we go again!
Liverpool’s sixth corner of the first half-hour comes to nothing. It is taken short before a wayward cross sails into the stands behind the goal.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:25 , Arthur Ferridge25mins: Gravenberch turns sharply on the edge of the box and shoots at goal. His effort is deflected behind for - you guessed it - another Liverpool corner. What a treat.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:24 , Arthur Ferridge23mins: Such a shame to see Szoboszlai playing at right-back. It is obviously a needs must move from Slot, who doesn’t have many other options, but you can’t help but feel the Hungarian’s talents are wasted in a full-back role.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:23 , Arthur Ferridge22mins: Slapstick free-kick routine there as Van Dijk trips over Gomez en route to attacking the ball, and Gravenberch is then flagged offside. One to forget.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:22 , Arthur Ferridge21mins: Tchatchoua gives Ngumoha a ‘welcome to the show’ hit. Clatters him from behind. Free-kick for Liverpool about 40 yards out.
None of these Liverpool set-pieces have really amounted to much just yet. There’s been a fair few of them.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:21 , Arthur Ferridge20mins: The third corner comes to nothing. Johnstone claims it.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:20 , Arthur Ferridge20mins: Szoboszlai’s corner is a much better delivery but Arokodare deals with this one. Another corner...
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:20 , Arthur Ferridge19mins: Liverpool have a free-kick to the left of the box and Szoboszlai sizes it up. He whips a ball in, but Tchatchoua, the first man, heads it behind for a corner.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:19 , Arthur Ferridge18mins: Another Ngumoha shot meets the head of Santiago Bueno. He keeps his feet, but he’ll be seeing stars for a few minutes.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:17 , Arthur Ferridge17mins: Santiago Bueno gets the first booking of the evening for pulling Cody Gakpo back as he looked to break away.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:15 , Arthur Ferridge14mins: It has been all Liverpool thus far but Wolves are growing into it - slowly. They’re enjoying a good spell in possession here, but Liverpool have all 11 men behind the ball.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:12 , Arthur Ferridge11mins: CHANCE! A very well-worked attack from Liverpool ends with Ngumoha dancing into the box. He works a shooting angle and draws a smart save from Johnstone.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:11 , Arthur Ferridge11mins: For the record, Dominik Szoboszlai is no longer wearing his hair in cornrows.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:10 , Arthur Ferridge9mins: Mac Allister pounces on a loose ball and hits it goalwards first-time, but it is right down Johnstone’s throat. Easy stop.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:09 , Arthur Ferridge9mins: Another Liverpool corner is taken by Mac Allister, who whips his effort into the front post. His cross is the wrong side of the post, though, and it will be a goal kick.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:07 , Arthur Ferridge6mins: Gakpo crosses after the short corner and Gravenberch nods it goalwards - he rattles the post! But the offside flag goes up after the ball rebounds into Johnstone’s hands. An early warning sign from the visitors!
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:06 , Arthur Ferridge5mins: Seems Liverpool are putting a lot ofstock hope in Ngumoha here - everything is going through him. He wins a corner...
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:05 , Arthur Ferridge4mins: Robertson’s uncharacteristically poor cross drifts behind for a Wolves goal kick.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:04 , Arthur Ferridge3mins: Hugo Bueno takes the free kick, but his effort is too high for the leaping Toti, who can’t quite get his head to the floating cross.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:03 , Arthur Ferridge2mins: Bellegarde drives forward and puts a problematic cross into the box, but Jones ultimately deals with it. They come again, though, and Gravenberch fouls Toti to give the hosts a free-kick about 35 yards from goal.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:02 , Arthur Ferridge1min: Ngumoha sees his first sight of the ball. He doesn’t do much - just passes back - but you can feel a bit of an anticipatory buzz around the ground when he gets possession.
KICK-OFF! Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
20:00 , Arthur FerridgeThe FA Cup fifth round is up and running at Molineux!
The players are out!
19:57 , Arthur FerridgeWe will be underway imminently.
There is a light show ongoing at Molineux, which can only mean one thing. Kick-off must be close!
Team news reminder
19:50 , Arthur FerridgeTen minutes to kick-off! Here’s a reminder of this evening’s teams.
Wolves XI: Johnstone; Tchatchoua, Mosquera, S. Bueno, Toti, H. Bueno, J. Gomes, A. Gomes, Bellegarde, Mane, Arokodare
Liverpool XI: Alisson; Robertson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Jones, Mac Allister, Salah, Gakpo, Ngumoha
Where is Andre?
19:50 , Arthur FerridgeAndre, scorer of the 94th minute winner on Tuesday night, is suspended for this match.
He was booked in both of Wolves’ previous FA Cup fixtures this season.
A sense of deja vu
19:48 , Arthur FerridgeHow often do two teams play each other at the same ground twice in four days? Can’t happen that often, can it?

Tolu Arokodare
19:45 , Arthur FerridgeChances have also been few and far between for Wolves and Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare this campaign.
He has just five goals for Wolves since he signed from Genk earlier this season.
Those have come across 30 appearances, though.
Can he impress Rob Edwards tonight?

Fan reaction: Slot decision questioned
19:41 , Arthur FerridgeSlot’s starting Alisson twice in the same week as if we don’t have Mamardashvili on the bench. He’s probably wondering why he joined us in the first place if he can’t even play cup games. #WOLLIV

Fan reaction: Deserved start for Ngumoha
19:40 , Arthur FerridgeWonderful to see Ngumoha start. He deserves the chance. Hopefully he takes it on and performs well 👏🏼 #WOLLIV #YNWA 🔴

Big chance for Ngumoha
19:37 , Arthur FerridgeRio Ngumoha has a big chance to impress tonight.
His first - and to date only- senior goal for Liverpool came seconds into his career as he hit the winner away at Newcastle back on Premier League matchday two!
Feels an awfully long time ago, doesn’t it?
Anyway, here’s the video if you fancy refreshing your memory.
Dominik Szoboszlai was the only Liverpool outfield player who didn’t touch the ball in the build-up to Rio Ngumoha’s winner v Newcastle…

Rob Edwards: Liverpool will be angry
19:35 , Arthur Ferridge"I think there will be elements that will be different. They will be angry, they will want to show us that they are better than us. They are winners, so we expect the best from them.
"Of course, we expect the best version of them, but we are ready for it. We had to suffer on things the other night. It is going to be a night to make sure we do our job and when we do get the moments, we need to try to be ruthless.
"What we are trying to do is shift the feeling of the place a little bit. It was in a difficult place when we came in and the results reflected that as well.
"The fans can see the hard work that is going on."
Supersub Wirtz?
19:29 , Arthur FerridgeWill Florian Wirtz feature off the bench this evening?
That remains to be seen, though he has not overly impressed as a substitute earlier this season.
Six appearances off the bench this season have seen Wirtz tally one goal and one assist, both of which came against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round.

Szoboszlai at right-back
19:21 , Arthur FerridgeIt seems Dominik Szoboszlai is playing as a full-back tonight. Again.
That is due to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong’s injuries.
Per Transfermarkt, this is the ninth time this season that he has done so.
In those matches, he has scored twice, yielding five wins and three losses.
How will he fare this evening?
Fan reaction: 'A joke'
19:15 , Arthur FerridgeThis Liverpool supporter is not impressed with the state of the squad.
Looks like yet again we are playing a midfielder at right back. It’s beyond a joke at this point. #LFC #WOLLIV

Liverpool team news
19:11 , Arthur FerridgeWell, what to make of that Liverpool team?
The headline, of course, is that 17-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha will make just his fourth first-team start of the season.
That should see Cody Gakpo line up at striker, with Mo Salah on the opposite wing.
Elsewhere, Florian Wirtz is back in the squad - as expected - but he is only fit enough for the bench.
Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is snubbed, with Alisson preferred.

WOLVES TEAM NEWS
19:03 , Arthur FerridgeAnd here are tonight’s hosts, whose squad contains three Gomes and two Buenos.
Wolves XI: Johnstone; Tchatchoua, Mosquera, S. Bueno, Toti, H. Bueno, J. Gomes, A. Gomes, Bellegarde, Mane, Arokodare
Subs: Bentley, Doherty, Wolfe, Armstrong, Hwang, Lima, R. Gomes, Krejci, Edozie

Mansfield vs Arsenal
Newcastle vs Manchester City
Wrexham vs Chelsea
Edwards: Hard to prioritise either match
18:52 , Arthur FerridgeRob Edwards said he could not place more emphasis on Wolves’ two matches against Liverpool this week.
“We made some changes, but that was because of knowing what was coming up, but also we felt it was the right way to try and win the game on Tuesday night. We did that for both those reasons and it’s hard for me to prioritise either game.
“We’re really valuing this game [tonight] and this game tomorrow is now the most important game of our season, but Tuesday night was the most important game of our season at that moment.
“It was really difficult for me to not value a game against Liverpool in the Premier League, so it was about trying to pick the right team to win a game of football, and knowing that we’ve got to be really good.
“We might have to ride our luck a little bit, and maybe things go our way for what happened to happen and now we’re in a good spot now, apart from Andre suspended, where everyone’s fit and available for tomorrow night.”
Team news incoming...
18:43 , Arthur FerridgeJust a few minutes till we find out how Arne Slot’s Liverpool and Rob Edwards’ Wolves will shape up this evening.
Slot 'almost annoyed' by tactics questions
18:39 , Arthur FerridgeMore quotes from Arne Slot, who was not pleased to have his tactics questioned by reporters as he previewed tonight’s cup tie.
"It's not the perfect word to use, because it's not what I feel, but I'm almost annoyed if you say ‘that approach’, before the approach is no different. The approach is: we want to have the ball as much as possible and have it back as soon as possible. We always press high, and when we have the ball we try to attack.
"In the final part, when we have the ball in the same position, it leads to chances, which didn't happen in the first 70 or 80 minutes. I see that as well, but that's not down to the approach.
"Maybe we don't understand each other exactly when you mean 'approach'. We don't approach the game saying 'OK, in the first 70 minutes we don't want the ball or want to attack'. We do. When it doesn't lead to anything, then we completely agree.
"But that might also be the fact that an opponent might be fitter at the start of a game, compared to the end. Maybe Wolves became more defensive after going 1-0 up, so they gave us more space. Or there is more urgency with us, but it's never the approach.
"We always start the game in the same way, and play it in the same way ... there is no difference in the approach. We attack as much as we can, we bring enough players forward but we aren't creating enough chances, and that's not something new to me. We have seen that all season."
Arne Slot reacts after Liverpool lose to Wolves
18:31 , Arthur FerridgeHere is what Arne Slot had to say after Liverpool conceded late to lose to Wolves on Tuesday night:
“Same old story. Recently, we are picking up points because many times we’ve scored from set-pieces, but what did not change in the last five, six or seven games is that we struggle and find it very hard to score from the open-play chances that we do create.
“Not as many as I would like from all the ball possession we have, but enough and far more than the other team. But, end result, we score one and they score two – and indeed another time in extra-time, so it sums up our season again in this game as well.
“What I mean with, ‘It sums up the season,’ is that we’ve had far more ball possession than the other team, we’ve created more open-play and in general chances than the other team, but from open play we struggle to score.”

Last time out...
18:23 , Arthur FerridgeIt has been just a couple of days since Liverpool last found themselves at Molineux, and the trip did not go entirely to plan.
They suffered a big setback in the race to qualify for the Champions League as Andre’s 94th-minute winner handed Wolves a rare Premier League victory.
That came in spite of Mohamed Salah breaking his extended goal drought.
Arne Slot was not in the best of moods afterwards (more on that later). Let’s see if he can get his own back tonight.

Liverpool predicted XI
18:15 , Arthur FerridgePredicted Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Ngumoha; Ekitike.
Wolves vs Liverpool head to head
18:07 , Arthur FerridgeVictory for Wolves on Tuesday was their first over Liverpool in six attempts. The two sides last met in the FA Cup in the 2022-23 season with the Reds coming out on top at Molineux via a replay.
Wolves wins: 38
Liverpool wins: 64
Draws: 18
Standard Sport prediction
17:59 , Arthur FerridgeWolves are absolutely flying at the moment, so much so that there’s a very real possibility they will not finish rock-bottom in the Premier League.
Of course, they will take confidence from beating Liverpool this week and running the Reds close in the reverse fixture at Anfield earlier in the season.
This has all the ingredients of a fascinating cup tie, especially as Wolves have nothing to lose, but we think Liverpool will have learned their lesson from Tuesday to exact a measure of revenge.
Liverpool to win, 2-1.
Liverpool early team news
17:51 , Arthur FerridgeAs for Liverpool, Arne Slot has confirmed Florian Wirtz is back in contention after missing the last three games with a minor back injury.
It is unlikely that the German playmaker will start the match, but his availability will be a massive boost for the Reds as they struggled for creativity in the Premier League encounter earlier in the week.
Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo and Conor Bradley are long-term absentees, but Giorgi Mamardashvili could get a chance in between the posts if Alisson Becker is rested ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 first-leg against Galatasaray.
